FAQ

Q. My Standard Audio CD Does not Play in my Normal CD Player?
A
. Is is almost certainly the CD-R disk type. Hi-Fi CD players were designed to work with silver disks, the laser found in these CD players sometimes can not read CD-R disks, if this is the case try purchasing a few disk types and colors.

Q. On my Mp3 CD how do I put tracks in a Folder?
A
. Run dBpoweramp CD Writer (Start >> Programs >> dBpoweramp CD Writer),  click New next to Writing CD. Then select each existing mp3 CD and Delete selected cd, next you want to create a new mp3 cd - select mp3/wma CD - set the size depending on your discs, set Type to mp3 (lame), here is where you set the folder - for File naming click select and choose something like [artist]\[artist] - [track], finally Create Audio CD. From on mp3s will be placed in artist folders.

Q. When writing a CD an error message is shown?
A
. This will either be one of two things:

  1. CD-R disc type - try a different manufacturer or a slower write speed,
  2. Your CD Writer is not compatible with dCW.
Q. In Windows 95/98/ME and no CD Burners Appear when I try to write?
A.
dCW has to access your CD drive through something call ASPI, it is a software layer between your CD drive and dCW. Unfortunately this ASPI software layer can become overwritten with 'bad' drivers.

For a start run this Adaptecs ASPI Version Checker it will tell you if ASPI is installed correctly (if not see below to update ASPI). Next run my own ASPI Drive Lister - this will simply ask ASPI what devices are present on your system, listing them all (including hard disc drives). An Example from running on my system:

Adaptor 0, Target 0, Lun 0, SCSI Type: Disk, ASPI Type: Disk [Maxtor 3 - 1536U2 ]
Adaptor 1, Target 0, Lun 0, SCSI Type: CDROM, ASPI Type: CDROM [PHILIPS - CDD3610 CD-R/RW ]
Adaptor 2, Target 1, Lun 0, SCSI Type: CDROM, ASPI Type: CDROM [TOSHIBA - CD-ROM XM-5701TA]

Should this program not list your CD drive, or gives an error such as 'Cannot Init ASPI', or 'No adaptors found' then update your ASPI. To update ASPI run this official Adaptec ASPI 4.71 update, or this 3rd party ASPI update.

Should it still not work, have a look here to delve in deep and fix it manually:

Remember: Certain older CD Writers are not supported.
